A good Gov2 inspiration

The Snowbirds help celebrate Canada's Naval Centenial

This weekend I realized that the Snowbirds have been a great Canadian Gov2 example for years. They certainly meet all the standards - They're all about engagement, they go where their audience is, they rely on user feedback to do their business, they foster innovation excellence in their team, when they fail it's very public, when they do fail, the mourn their losses, learn from mistakes and get back to work, and their users are often left with a deep sense of the aesthetics of excellence. You don't have to be a pilot nor in the military to recognize how good they are. As "advance staff" for the Canadian Forces the Snowbirds are an amazing asset and a great model of how engagement teams can be built.

Oh, and they're also super badass.

The view from my floor #yam

I'm baaaack. It'll take some reflecting but I just realized the distance I rode on my bike in 2 not horridly long days. Wow.

My back and butt are certainly aware of how many hours I've spent in the saddle, however. I broke my pelvis several years ago and well, the sharp bits get mighty uncomfy after a while on the bike. I did purchase a furry sheepskin cover, which helped and did earn me plenty of quizical looks. Odd as it seems, sometimes the best therapy for my lower back is to lay on a rather hard floor. I've got one of those, so I'm all good.

I'm literally popping into my place, putting my stuff down and then heading into the office. I'm not sure if two days on the road gave me the much needed new perspectives I was looking for or not. Hopefully, some time spent percolating will shake some fruits free.

I will say this much -I attempted brevity on my posts. I've realized that I'm not short-winded. My writing felt curt and not at all like me. Shakespeare was right - write like ye speak, young scribes and thespians!

Vancouver

I've made Vancouver. That's nearly 1000 miles in 32 hours. I'm getting closer to an Iron butt award. That distinction is a tower of dubiousness.

I can't even spell Abottsford...

Yet, here I am. I sure hope that sun holds up. Everytime I take my rain gear off, I put it right back on again 15 minutes later.

Kamloopy

Lots of construction on the road, along with some healhy rain, intermixed with heat. I've found a nice spot to chill for a bit, then on to Merritt.

Heading out

I've waited out some rain & am now leaving Rstolke. Good hotel, although I slept rather poorly.

Revelstoked

I've made it to Revelstoke & have even found a hotel for the night. I am sad to miss the opportunity to snuggle with the bears....

I do like motorcycle camping, but tonight I was very glad for a hot tub before bed.

I bought a sheepskin cover for my bike seat. While not the most elegant of solutions, my rear end is as comfy as it has ever been after 10 hours and 700kms on a bike. Proof that sometimes quick and dirty can save your ass after all.

I've been doing a great deal of thinking on this trip. I'm at a crossroads with many things in my life. I pride myself on knowing what to do - or at least having a plan, pretty much all the time. That may make me, as someone close to me recently pointed out, a bit of a control freak. In this case, I have to learn to figure it out as I go along. That way, it's an adventure, right?

Golden

I'm in Golden, but with 4 hours of daylight left, I'm heading for Revelstoke.

Next stop mountains

I took part of the Cowboy Trial. Pretty, but wicked busy.
